What followed at this historical meeting was Ai’s complete dismissal of the idea that the artwork Hausmeister presented could change anything for the better in Chinese society. "Useless poetry.." and "I am NOT involved... I don’t believe in any of it…” were among Ai’s milder rebuffs.
Stephan Hausmeister’s conclusion:
"I hereby accept Ai Weiwei’s rejection as a challenge - to prove the opposite."
